I wrote a custom shipping module yesterday. I am thinking of writing a comprehensive tutorial on it as it was very easy to do it, but people may struggle as they don’t know the structure of prestashop’s code and logic.

I was getting annoyed by a lot of modules pages which were getting indexed by google. I got even frustrated when I saw google indexed hundreds of pages of my site (where as I have a very few pages) which showed duplicate content alerts in Google webmaster tool. I checked the links and I found hundreds of pages like ‘search.php? bla bla bla…’

I also found some module specific pages, login pages, cms pages, etc, which are meant to be hidden from search engines. The category pages had duplicate contents. So many things. I then concentrate on which page I need to have indexed by search engines: products.php, index.php, sitemap.php files, mainly.

So I made a very quick, fast, and nice solution which will allow indexing of only those types of pages which I want to. And it must perfectly work with friendly urls, too.

I was checking google webmaster tool for my prestashop site. I found duplicate content and title error for several pages in my webmaster tools. When I checked the links I found google has indexed every ‘send to a friend’ page for every single products I have! So they found duplicate things on those form pages that people use to send the product link to their friends!
